Hi

Hi

When I meet my clothes clients, the first question I ask them is 'How would you describe your look right now?'. The second is 'How would you like to look, after your reinvention experience?'. Nine times out of ten the answer is 'more funky'. The Oxford Dictionary description of funky is merely 'fashionable' but I think it implies stylish, fun and cutting edge. Most of my clients are conscious of the 'mutton dressed as lamb' mistake so how do you look fashionable without dressing too young for your age?

If you feel your look has become tired, dated or even tarty (!) I can come and look at your wardrobe and tell you straight about those horrors and nasties! The Scottish Daily Mail reported last week that the average woman has 22 items of clothing she never worn but from my experience the figure is a lot higher.

Call me NOW  07933 911522 to find out about your complimentary Style Consultation and how to dress for success whether in a professional or personal situation.

Spring Style

Spring Style

I've had great fun shopping with clients this January and have seen them take advantage of some of the best concessions ever, but the time has come for change as the new season's delights begin to filter through onto the high street. I talked last time about the bold and flourescent colour that is coming your way for summer but here are some more trends to look out for:

  • Fruity Prints. Inspired by Stella McCartney these will certainly get you in a summery frame of mind! Stella says 'I wanted to add a punch of colour to my collection and I think that doing it in a really bold citrus print gave it a slight sense of humour, but I also wanted it to be easy to wear and have a real feeling of summer'. These prints are on skirts, dresses and bags and you'll find them also in your high street stores. You will see birds, flowers and watercolours - these remind me  of a skirt I wore in 1981 with a beach scene! I think it was from Chelsea Girl. Remember anyone?
  • Thigh-high splits. Remember those back splits on our pencil skirts in the 80s? Well splits are back but this time to the side and high! They look particularly good on evening dresses and ball gowns and worn with long shoe-boots if you're leg-conscious.
  • Tiered gypsy skirts. It's all coming back now! Look out particularly for maxi length and dresses too. Beware if you're conscious of your tummy as many of the styles have gathered waists and front buttons. Best to go for a wide waistband here and fitted around the pelvic area. or come to Pilates and get your flat stomach!
  • Bangles. For your statement piece choose a bangle this season. Wooden, colourful or metal these are as cheap as chips! I recommend Accessorize, Wallis and Primark.
  • Denim dresses. Denim is always big in summer and 2011 sees the evolution of the denim dress. Look out for slick day dresses and oversized box shapes (these generally do not look good unless you are built like a catwalk model). However there are some shaped and fitted ones around and some lovely feminine styles for your beach holiday.
  • Bodies, jumpsuits and Aladdin pants. These have been around for a while now but are here to stay for the time being. Bodies look particularly good with a long tiered gypsy skirt - 70s meets 80s here - beware of jumpsuits and Aladdin pants if you are short - I have decided at 5'4'' the jumpsuit does not look great on me but with some heels I can carry off the Aladdin pants.

If you don't know what to wear and feel you need an update of your summer wardrobe that is right for your age and lifestyle give me a call to discuss - I'd be delighted to help!

Men on Mats

Men on Mats

I really look forward to Tuesday nights at 6.45pm because Men on Mats is such good fun. There is a bit of competition going on here, and I must mention the lovely Bruce Taylor here for giving everything a go and more. There's a real camerarderie in the class and I feel I now have my core of class members, but we still have room for one or two more so come and give it as go! You will:

  • Develop muscles you never knew you had!
  • Develop stamina and flexibility
  • Regain that definition you had in your 20s
  • Prevent, improve or eliminate back pain

Re-Invention Room Running

Re-Invention Room Running

March 2011 sees the launch of                Re-Invention Room Running which has evolved as I have become aware that lots of my clients concentrate on their core muscles and posture, but aren't actually doing any cardiovascular fitness away from my classes. Cardiovascular or aerobic fitness is vital for:

  • Burning fat and speeding up your metabolism
  • Improving the circulation and blood flow encouraging a healthy heart and lungs
  • If it's weight-bearing such as jogging, preventing bone-thinning or osteoporosis
  • Encouraging relaxation and improved mood due to the release of endorphins
  • Healthy and younger looking skin

Running was my first love with exercise, having done orienteering and fell-running to a high standard from an early age. I also have a great deal of experience with 5k, 10k and half-marathon road running. I would like to share this with you and challenge you to enter the Cancer Research UK Race for Life 5K which takes place in Stirling on 29/5/11.

If we start on Thursday 3/3/11, this will give us 13 weeks to train properly. I will make sure you have warmed up safely, prepared properly and can run 3 miles before the event. This would be a great opportunity if you have never ran before as we will be starting from scratch.

We will meet every Thursday in Stirling at 6pm - a great way to make friends and motivate yourself to get fit for summer.

Call me NOW if you're interested. I have 15 spaces. 2 pounds per session.

Fitness Pilates

Fitness Pilates

We're having a great session at the moment with all 5 classes going well. This month I am attending my annual Fitness Pilates Update Tour in Edinburgh with founder Rachel Holmes. I always look forward to this and love discovering latest Fitness Pilates research and ideas. As many of you are aware, I have been working a lot harder in class recently in preparation for a room full of very fit teachers!

I have set my Pilates clients a challenge for this session:

If you can manage to hold a full Side Plank balancing on the green soft ball before the end of March you will get a class with my compliments. I have never seen such a change in people's efforts since I mentioned this! Congratulations to Marjory Ekin who has been a class member for 3 years and managed this for the first time this week. Well done Marjory!
